Litecoin (LTC) has announced that it has become the official crypto partner for UFC 232, making it the first cryptocurrency to partner with the mixed martial arts company.
It seems that every day brings more exposure to cryptocurrency, which means greater awareness and adoption. The worlds of cryptocurrency and sports have collided over the last few months in several ways. First, a number of premier soccer teams have partnered with crypto platforms to create their own coins. Another development, which BitcoinerX reported earlier today, is that a cryptocurrency platform outright bought a soccer team in Spain. Now a new contender has entered the field of play – or to be more apt – the octagon.
Litecoin Partners with UFC
Litecoin, the eighth-ranked cryptocurrency in the world, has announced that it has entered into a partnership with the UFC, the insanely popular mixed martial arts company. The coin is now the official cryptocurrency partner for UFC 232, the latest event that is taking place this Saturday, December 29th, in California.
UFC 232 is headlined by a rematch between former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones and UFC light heavyweight Alexander Gustafsson. Jones boasts a record of 22-1 (no contest) while Gustafsson has a record of 18-4. The two fought back at UFC 165 in September 2013 where Jones won via a narrow decision.
In its announcement, Litecoin notes that this is the first time any cryptocurrency has partnered with the UFC. They feel that this move will boost global awareness and shows that this disruptive technology is becoming more mainstream.
The altcoin also feels a connection with the UFC in how both entities have grown and been supported. The Litecoin Foundation notes:
Over the last 25 years, UFC, the world’s premier mixed martial arts organization, has evolved from a tiny grassroots movement to a global phenomenon, largely based on the extremely passionate community it has cultivated along the way. We see many parallels to Litecoin in this way as our amazing community has been instrumental in our growth and providing unwavering passion and enthusiasm that continues to propel us forward.
This promotion should bring cryptocurrency to a whole new audience, which is a very good thing. Litecoin views its partnership with UFC 232 as just the beginning as they plan on doing more with the mixed martial arts company.
